Yes indeed but that is the nominal price...some are trading around 70 so that 70k would be the amount required but surely there are savings unions and groups throughout the UK and people could club together to purchase a bond .
Alternatively if you had say 50k and borrowed the rest you could then make a few percent extra on the difference between the yield and interest on the loan.
Of course these are only for those confident that Barclays will not go bust which I would imagine, if a poll were taken, represents 90 percent of the UK adult population
