Hi i have a 2 year old son who is completly deaf on one side (ear not formed and no canal) and has reduced hearing on formed side due to glue ear.
Does anyone currently get dla for deafness and is it worth me applying for him?
Thanks in advance for your replies. Gemma

hi gemma i get lower rate mobility and middle rate care dla for my son who is deaf in both ears so give it a try , you need to put on the form that he needs help with comunication and also help with caring for his aids if he has any0

I would strongly recommend that you get help with the forms from a specialist Benefits advisor (probably worth looking for tips on the Benefits board) because it can be quite hard to get DLA for younger children anyway, simply because they ALL need a lot of care and attention. You will have to demonstrate that your son needs MORE care and attention than an 'average' two year old.
Also is the glue ear longstanding? Because if that's only a temporary problem then your chances go down again. Sorry ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I recommend you read this thread:
MSE Help For Hearing Impairment link
And also that you contact the National Deaf Children's Society. They have a free helpline listed on their website:
