Egg Card - What can l do ?

I have an Egg Card, and have done for about 5 years now. In May 2008 i claimed back over £700.00 of charges from them successfully.
My Egg Card is the only debt l have (apart from a mortgage) and knew l may need it one day .... like now. However l have been online today and found l cannot login. When l called Egg they have advised me that my account has been cancelled during a review of my account in June 2008. They have confirmed they did not warn or advise me of this.
When l claimed the charges back from Egg l wrote in the letter the claim amount, charges schedule and also clearly stated "my account and card is currently active and if you agree this settlement then my account and card should remain active." Egg agreed to the settlement and therefore my 'demand'.
Can l make Egg "active" my account or just stop making payments ?

The original contract you had with Egg almost certainly said they could end the agreement at any time and, despite your letter, this is legally still the case. It seems odd that they did not tell you. What has been happening since June 2008? Have you been making purchases or payments? Do you still have an outstanding balance on the card? If I remember rightly from when this was in the news, you can take as long as you like to pay of the debt (obviously paying the minimum payment at least). You could write a letter of complaint, but I doubt they are going to reverse their decision. They didn't do it for all the other Egg customers who got in touch with the media and programmes like Working Lunch. I think you should look for a new card. If you believe you have poor credit history you should look at your current account provider first and if they cannot do anything for you, have a look at some of the sub-prime credit cards mentioned here. Alternatively, if you have other cards that are all maxed out, divert your resources into paying one of those off, so you can use it as a 'purchasing card' instead of the Egg Card.0

Nothing has been happening since June 2008 really. I have a direct debit which is setup and has been taken every month. To be honest l have never checked the account until today because l have never needed it.
Its not a real issue l can just use my overdraft just more annoyed that anything else. I feel they entered into an agreement with me and broke it - no issue. However if l break an agreement with them - becomes a problem.0
