Morrisons have a cheapo one in store too forgot how much but better contrast ratio than that one 700:1 is very poor

That's the difference between the blackest black and the whites white

Found a reference to it on hotukdeals. I think its made by techwood. Still I rather buy a known brand that a cheapo one still, you get what you pay for

The stated contrast ratio is meaningless.

A contrast ratio of 600:1 is what they use for editing films, and they use very expensive CRT monitors as there aren't any flat screens with comparable contrast ratios. A really good movie theatre will have a contrast ratio of around 500:1.

I saw a TV advertised the other day which claimed a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, which is utterly ridiculous.

Manufacturers have rendered specs meaningless due to their desire to have the best numbers on paper. The only way to tell which TV actually looks better is by looking at it.

But rest assured that whatever contrast ratio the specs say, your TV will be nowhere near it in real life.
  • Thanks for that, I had been looking around following the post above at thye contrasts and the best I could find for a 19" was 750 - 1 so sounds thats about all I could get in my price range.

Now the decision is do I go for it or do I take a chance and wait til the new year!!!
