Shops in NI giving £1 to €1?

Just heard on Newstalk that shops in NI are accepting payment in Euro, at the rate of £1=€1.

Can anyone confirm this?

Depends on how large the purchase is. Its really only about 5% discount

    Live rates at 2008.12.18 14:43
    1.00 EUR = 0.944156 GBP

    1 EUR = 0.944156 GBP 1 GBP = 1.05915 EUR

Yes, noticed a shop had a billboard on the flyover at Banbridge advertising such, all thet have to do really is add a few pence onto everything to make up the difference
  • Quite a few shops in Newry do it.
  • Also noticed this in quite a few of the shops in Victoria Square, can't remember which ones but Tommy Hillfieger (sp) is one of them

I was in Belfast yesterday. While in McDonalds, the lads being served on the cashier next to me wanted to pay with a €20 note. The cashier checked with the manager it's worth. "That's worth £16 now", the manager replied. "The pound's after getting stronger".

Um, not by that much! If we're talking interbank, €20 is £18.57 at the current rate of 1.076. To say that €20 = £16 would be correct if £1 = €1.25 which, good or bad, is now a rate of days gone by.

So, honest mistake or McDonalds trying to cash in? I don't know. What I do know is, their ruddy milkshake machine is still not fixed!!

I was in Banbridge today and one of the shops was offering $=£1.05!

And yes - that is the correct way round, not a typo on my part!
