Verified by visa not all it's cracked up to be.

I recently had fraudulent use on my credit card after I had used the Cotton Traders' site!!. Looking back at my records I see that I had signed up to that Verified by visa thingy before the fraud.
I thought the entire point of that was to stop fraud, but my card was still used fraudulently.

VbV only works on certain e-shopping websites that comply with the programme. Where was your card fraudulently used?0

It was used to fund a mobile phone top-up, Orange I think, off the top of my head.0

I used VBV too and it declined my log on details - when I called the helpdesk they said I couldn't pass security because my D.O.B was completely wrong? Keeping a close eye on my account I think from now on!
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -

I have already cancelled the card thanks, but I was just miffed that this great VbV which gives you yet another blasted password to remember did not seem to prevent fraud.0 -
I think it's more an issue with Cotton Traders as opposed to the Verified by Visa system.0

There is an ongoing thread somewhere about fraud originating from Cotton Traders.
I think the general advice is don't touch them with a bargepole.0 -

VBV and SecureCode work for the benefit of the retailer to assist in verification of the cardholder by providing additional protection.
It should also act as a note for you as a customer that the retailer is genuine, as the phrase you supplied to VBV is diplayed on the payment screen, giving you the confidence that the retailer is genuine.
Remember though, like any system it is not foolproof, and the Cotton Traders thing is more than likely nothing to do with the security of the VBV system. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0
