Is my new lcd TV ok?

I've just bought a Samsung LE32A457 and have noticed on black screens (eg dark scenes or when changing channel) there is a large paler (grey) patch in the upper centre of the screen. Is this "normal" on LCDs or have I received a duff one?

Maybe the backlight isn't very even. If you're concerned get it back to JL to get it checked out. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Sounds like the backlight. Normally in the 4 corners. Normal thing to expect from an LCD i'm afraid.0

Thanks Bill and Traveller.
I'm trying to decide whether I ought to reject the tv and get a relacement or just accept as is. Rejections are best done quickly.
From what you say, I assume that, if I can accept this visual effect, its presence does not suggest anything more serious?0 -
The term is 'backlight bleed'. Wouldn't say its a normal thing to expect from an LCD. Some makes are more susceptible to it than others, particularly cheap brands, or budget ranges - they've got to save money somewhere! Did you check to see if it was the same on the in store TV? John lewis are pretty good with warranties, might be worth seeing if they'll replace it for you.0
