A Strange Baking Aftertaste

Greetings good people 
I have a slight baking issues that I hope you can shed some light on.
Last night I made some biscuits and cookies in preparation for my archery clubs crimbo night tonight. Whilst the biscuits taste fine, I've noticed that the cookies (when not biting into the choccy parts) have a strange aftertaste that I just can't put my finger on. It's very hard to describe, which I know doesn't exactly help :huh:
This isn't the first time I've noticed it either. It's happened in a number of different baking recipes. The only things I think it could be are either the flour I'm using (Homepride) or, maybe, the Bicarb (Cooks I think it is).

Any ideas are most welcome

I'm not sure I should be talking to you if you're an Evil Penguin, and I'm a very good Penguin....
I can't see what the problem could be from the recipe, but I always suspect bicarb - it's amazing how vile it tastes if you get the wrong amount. Are you sure you've got the correct spoons for measuring? I always used to think a serving spoon was a tablespoon, which caused a few problems! I'm not suggesting you're as daft as me, but I thought I'd mention it......0 -

Try leaving out the bicarb - it can add a strange taste to scones, so it might be the same here

I'm pretty sure all the measurements were correct, though I don't have proper measuring spoons. I may try a quarter tsp of bicarb next time, see if that makes a difference.0 -

Will leaving the bicarb out completely not cause an issue with the finished product?0 -
Leave out the salt. It is accentuating the flavour of the bicarb, and it isn't necessary.
As previous poster said, check that your spoons are the correct size or that you are not being over generous when you fill the spoon!0 -

Doh! Forgot to mention, I used salted butter, so left out the salt. I do have a habit of being over generous sometimes though!0 -
It's probably the bicarb ... is it a kind of weird soapy taste? It's amazing how even the tiniest bit too much can give baking an odd flavour, it's always better to be a bit 'under' with it rather than over.0

Hmm yeah I so. Just hope they don't notice it too much tonight!
Still, it seems to taste better after a day or two...or maybe I just get used to the weird taste0 -

I'll most likely end up making more this weekend for a works crimbo lunch, so that'll be the first thing I check in the next batch.
I'll get the hang of this baking lark eventually!0
