These are great if you have enough light near you when you are trying to use them. The GBA SP is a massive advance on them purely because of the backlighting. If you don't want the size of a DS or PSP then get a GBA SP or a Micro (if you can cope with the smaller screen).

    For non ebay try:-

cash generators (if you have one near you) - try there for games they had game boy colour & advanced games - no box or instructions 2.99 (9.99 in gamestation)

or gameboy advanced games with box and inst 4.99

with the sp or micro the game compatibility is as below:-

The Game Boy Advance SP plays every game that can also be played on the Game Boy Advance. And vice versa. That's hundreds and hundreds of Game Boy Advance-only games. Want to go retro? You can also play every Game Boy or Game Boy Color game ever made. We've lost count, but trust us -- that's plenty.

The Game Boy micro plays only Game Boy Advance titles, and that's over 700 games!

  • Anybody out there seen the new GBA SP with backlit screen in any shops or online?

All GBA SP's have backlit screens, it's the original GBA's that don't have.

A word of warning about buying GBA games from ebay. Make sure your seller is in the UK and check feedback carefully - there are many sellers on ebay selling top games very cheaply. These are often fakes and inferior quality. I have been caught out a couple of times in the past. One thing they like to state is that it's a different edition but will work on UK consoles. If they come from dubai or hong kong avoid...
  • I read that the very latest SP's that have only made it into the UK in small numbers have backlit screens which are much better (curently only in certain colour machines like Graphite and Pearlesant Blue and spongebobs). The boxes are marked "Now with a brighter backlit screen!". Has anyone seen these?

I just bought a SuperCart for the Gameboy advance sp (or original) - A UK seller is doing them for £32 delivered on eBay, but I got mine from HK via http://www.minionlinestore.com/ for £30.90.

Basically it takes a secure digital card (or CF if you wish)(512MB SD Amazon- £18) and holds about 100+ games. There are lots of freeware non comercial roms out there which are totally legel and free to download. Or you can download about 2300 comercial roms from the likes of torrentspy.com but obviously you would have purchased an original copy of the rom before you played it or that would be piracy!

So for < £50 (cost of what 2-3 new games) you can play 1000's of games. Needless to say my nethew hasnt lifted his head from the gameboy for the last 2 weeks.

This is true. The screen is far brighter.
