barclays regular saver

can anyone help please.
this was in latest MSE newsletter:

"The rate on the website is displaying 6%, but Barclays have confirmed to us anyone who gets the payment in by the end of December will get the higher rate (7.75% gross). The process of getting the payment in will be quicker if you apply in branch, though beware of bank staff trying to flog you more Barclays products."

i went into my local barclays to open this account but was told rate is only 6%, they don't know of this better 7.75% rate mentioned in newsletter.

how can i obtain this rate on their 12 month regular savers account please, if their own staff don't know of it???

If I recall they poster on the other thread said there was a system message to that effect which the staff in their branch were able to look up and confirm.

apparently not in my branch!! how do you suggest i convince them of this offer?? or would it go thru automatically at higher rate?

I too went to my branch to open a Reg saver acc. AFTER i had received an email from Barclays "internet care team" tracking number 1111607 dated the 17th of December 12:04 pm clearly stating that the rate is 7.75 if invested before end of december 2008 but 6% if done in January. i have since spoken (when I got back home steaming) to the people at barclays on tel no 08457 555 555 and subsequently to the complaints team "simon" who read out a notice saying it is 6%. I really would love to walk back into the branch and open this account. Come on Martin please if you are right give us a leg up. I'm off to Barclays web site next, to complain anyway, as it seems the right whatsit doesnt have a clue about what the left thingy is doing.

The latest is that for accounts OPENED BEFORE END OF NOVEMBER with the FIRST DEPOSIT MADE BEFORE END OF DECEMBER, the rate would be 7.75%.

However, if the account was opened in December and the first deposit also made in December, the rate would be 6%.

I have Just received this Email (see below) from Barclays, it seems as though they lied, err sorry i maen they got it wrong.

Thank you for your email

Our Savings Team have advised that the rate for the Monthly Savings is currently 6.00% AER (5.84% gross pa) in months when no withdrawals are made.

Hi,I also went to the local Branch and only 5.84% was mentioned.I also went on the Barclays Chat line and they said the same.
