Car Insurance - courtesy car

I have just got a great quote via the Post Office (£50 cash back if you take out insurance through them before 31 Mar06). When I phoned to confirm and buy, I questioned the courtesy car - ' a courtesy car is included - IF Available'. I was then told to take out legal cover for an extra £20 which the Post office would guarantee a hire car if there was no courtesy car. I checked the policy wording and it does state 'if available'. This seems very grey and confusing. Any advice????

I work for Post office Insurance, and it is "if available". We are NEVER supposed to use the "G" word (as it gets called!). Call back and get tape listened to, as the op will probably continue to say same thing.
The terms are:
A courtesy car for 48 hours if it is the result of a FAULT ACCIDENT (ie no courtesy car in the event of a theft)
A courtesy car for the period in which your car is undrivable in the event of a NON FAULT accident. (So only if the third party can be identified, is insured, and was at fault for damage).
This cover is limited to drivers aged 23 - 70 only.
All courtesy cars are subject to availablility.
Hope this helps a bit.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Probably worth the extra £20 for legal cover / hire car. But check that the hire car is payd direct by insurer, and you do not have to reclaim costs from them later.
After a non fault accident in August I had to spend £400 on car hire, as my car was a write-off. You only get the courtesy car if your car is repairable. However as the other 2 involved parties are blaiming each other my insurer is delaying refunding me the expense!0
