Question for other Canon 350D owners

Seeing as there is a good chance there are a few fellow Canon 350D owners on this forum ;-) I'm wondering if someone can help.
I just got mine - long story - and it's great. However, according to the manual (and confirmed earlier today when I popped into Jessops to check) there should be a green info display visible when you look through the viewfinder - it shows various info such as a light meter and shutter speed (I think). When I look through mine I see nothing - other than what I'm taking a picture of, and the the autofocus points.
I'm really hoping I've just turned it off somehow ... does anyone know how to turn it on, or heard of a similar problem.
I really hope it's not faulty ... don't want to have to return it! I only got the camera on Thursday, so I shouldn't have any problems, but I've had a lot of hassle from Currys - the stores seem genuinely hostile to people who order via the website and sort problems out in store ... so don't fancy going back!
Thanks in advance!
(In case anyone is wondering I've tried Canon support online with no success and the telephone line isn't open until Monday)

Search the manual that came on the CD with the camera for more information. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

My display always shows these lights - had mine since it came out. There is a good forum on https://www.dpreview.com that may be worth checking out for some answers. No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

Do you wear specs - some SLR viewfinders are a bit tricky if you do. Try without the specs - everything will be fuzzy, but you should be able to see if there are any green blobs..0

Thanks - there is nothing in the manual, or on canon's site, or on the web. I've posted in other site's forums, so I'll wait and see ... it just seems like a really odd fault but I guess it could be a bulb or something ..?
Cheers!0 -
I'm presuming that you're looking in the right place, but just in case...
The green info should be right at the bottom, looks like it's 'inside' the camera, not in the viewfinder. When you press the shutter button half-way down, it should should for a few seconds then disappear. <Yes, I've just got one recently too.

It depends on the main dial setting. You will only see the 'head up display' when the dial is taken off the fully automatic setting. Turn it to the 'm' manual setting. Which is fully automatic anyway if you want it.0

Thanks for all the suggestions - nothing seems to make any difference. I'm going to try and exchange it today ...
It seems to be a very unusual fault!

Nope, you should defo see all the info in the view finder regardless of the scene setting. Take it back and get it replaced.0
