consensus on 21 days?

what do people generally think about paypal withholding your money for 21 days?

I have sole 2 items where the payment is on hold. they are for £5 & £15 so not a big sum so will send them out anyway.

but if the buyers dont submit positive feedback for any reason (e.g. they just dont feel like it) I have to wait 3 weeks before I can even start the process of getting my money.

I read another thread somewhere where the seller just refunded.

what do others think?

  • This has all come about due to scammers. I dont suppose its popular with sellers but how else can paypal weed out the bad guys?

In many ways it's a good idea. However what folk need to know is what actions or events need to occur to have this lifted.

I don't sell much on EBay amymore so I'm not as up to speed as I should be some of the more regular sellers will probably be able to cast more light on it.

I might add that if you start selling on Amazon (certainly in my case a few years ago) they also witheld funds for 21-28 days until the account had some history.

The money automatically clears on the 22nd day if the buyer has not opened a dispute - there is no other process.

I agree that something needed to be done to stop the high value scams, and this scheme is a big step in reducing them.

It only affects new sellers, not established sellers, and in practice there is very little to worry about if you are a genuine seller. A polite email to the buyer explaining what is happening from your end will get them onside, and instill a degree of confidence with them, and that should encourage prompt feedback, and therefore release of the funds.

As a buyer I would never leave feedback until I received the item, and if the seller wanted to wait for 21 days I would open a dispute at the earliest oppotunity, Its not fair that sellers make buyers wait due to this hold.

    Eh? What you talking about?

Of course you don't leave feedback until it is received.

You can refund the buyer 1p that releases the funds. :j
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

that would be good, except I dont have any funds to refund as they're on hold :wall:

my first buyer responded to my email and has said he will give fb as soon as he received the item so that's good.

I never realised that sometimes funds aren't released til after FB has been left.

It's a bit OTT IMO from Ebay - I personally can't always leave FB straight away (medical reasons) so sometimes it's a couple of weeks after I recieve the item, not ideal but unfortunately I don't have a great deal of choice in the matter, I don't see why a seller should be penalised for that.
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

I get my partner to pay me £1 then I get the funds, much easier.
