network problem

Hi there,

Firstly, I hope that I am in the right place! I have set up a small home network to allow a pc and laptop to share the internet connection. I am currently living in the Philippines, but don't think this would matter.

The laptop is quite new and has vista, the pc is quite old and has xp. The router is not wireless make- zyxel and model - p-660R-D1 it has a reset switch but doesn't seem to work at all.

I have connected this to a tp-link (tl-sf1005d) 5 port ethernet switch.

when i start the pc i have to disable and then enable the internet by right clicking the icon next to the clock. Then it works fine.

The laptop connects well but after about one hour it stops! I get the yellow flag on the icon and a message telling me there is limited connectivity. I then have to start the whole proceedure again.

I really would be grateful for any help or advice, or a redirection to a more appropriate place for some help.

Many, Many thanks in advance!

is the zexel a router/modem unit or are you running a seperate modem.

I take it you have the PC and laptop connected through to the switch and then this connects to the router - all on ethernet cables).

I think the zexel has a firewall among other settings - are you able to access its GUI to set it up? (the GUI is basically the interface which allows you to change settings on the router itself).

  • thankyou so much exup, after your comment and a little bit of googling I was able to find out all about the settings of the router itself, and everything is now up and running perfectly!!!

    Thanks again for that!

Fingers crossed it stays like it :)
