Dont worry about it.Comets just telling you what they think. I just think they'll post it out to you when its repaired and thats it.
My laptop broke, something to do with the plug bit snapping off, I was told by comet that the warrenty didnt cover this as id obviously dropped it and it was a £300 part plus labour job ..i may of got a new laptop with the repair job price.Anway,i left it with them and they said they would send it off and phone me before completing the work and tell me of the "damage" It arrived at my house 3 weeks later, all repaired under the warrenty . I was so relieved and had worried about nothing

I guess that Comet has to give you the worst case scenario. Hopefully once it is mended they will realise it has been an accident and wont charge.
Have they given you a replacement in the meantime or have you to do without?

Laptop keyboards often fail, as do the screens eventually. As an engineer i've had to replace loads of them.
I've also had to replace a lot of system boards on Dell laptops, which I wouldn't recommend for that reason. Additionally, I found their support to be quite poor.
It's probably quite a good idea to have a warranty on a laptop as parts are very expensive. A new screen can be in the hundreds and can therefore render the laptop a write off.
Toshiba laptops have a good reputation, although i've found them very fiddley to work on. I found Fujitsu Siemens latops to be of very good quality and when we rolled out hundreds of them at the largest telecomms company in the country the failure rate was exceptionally low.
I'm not too sure about Sony or Acer, which seem to be quite popular, but you certainly very rarely find them in the workplace. I would personally stick to the big brands as support and parts are easier to come by and with a laptop you're likely to need both of them fairly often.0 -
My Mum had several keys on her laptop keyboard that had faded with use over time. She contacted Toshiba directly, who promptly sent her a brand new keyboard, plus full instructions on how to fit totally free of charge.
Now that is customer service!0 -

Keyboards and HDD's are generally quite easy to fit. The same can't be said for system boards and screens though.0 -
