I've just bought one of these ..

    For £120 !!!

JUST SIX QUID A GIGABYTE !!

    Forgot to mention ...

Not only can this be used as an ordinary external (and obviously portable between PCs) 20gb disc drive ...

    but even better ...

.. it records directly in MP3 format from all the audio inputs !!

via the built in microphone (in mono) at 64Kbps
    via the 3.5mm line-in jack (stereo) {analogue signal} at 64/128/192 Kbps

    Or the best yet....

DIGITAL OPTICAL (also at 64/128/192 Kbps)

The latter option being perfect for connection to the digital optical output of my CD player, DVD player, Freeview box, etc.....

Just connect up and record away - no MP3 hunting or converting !

  • Just a tip:

The IPOD input is just a line-in input and will take any 3.5mm lead from any headphone socket so you can use whatever you want through it. You could even use an old Sony Tape Walkman if you wanted.

I personally use Creative Zen 20Gb as it was only £135 before Xmas. Apparently staples are selling them off now for £90 in store as seen on another forum. If they have any left that is.

  • I wouldn't recommend a second-hand ipod. Ipods are notoriously bad for breaking - just have a look on ebay for "faulty ipod". In fact, I wouldn't recommend ipods at all, style over substance, there are many, many better mp3 players out there. Creative and Archos are very highly regarded by a lot of people. Having owned several Creative, Archos and ipods, I'd definitely recommend Archos as my favourite

Seen as this person "Having owned several Creative, Archos and ipods"!!!
Dosen't sound like any of them are any good, if you get through them this quick!

I went the other option, An MP3 Car Stereo.

By the way Ipods are crap

  • ...and it is not a headphone-type round one, but a very narrow connector, about an inch long.. I hope this helps!

I'm thinking about getting an MP3 player to make life easier for me at the gym as well, it's easier to be distracted from your aching muscles if there are some decent tunes on!

If I had a car, I'd be tempted to get one of these.

I've thought about getting one anyway and just plugging it into my pc. Has anyone tried them out ?

I've got a creative zen touch, and I think it's brilliant. I've never wanted a ipod due to the lack of wma support.

  • FOR THE IPOD IVE GOT A MONSTER iCARPLAY. GREAT QUALITY IT WORKS ON A WIRELESS PRINCIPLE, BUT ITS NOT WIRELESS IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, IT PLUGS INTO YOUR IPOD AND PLUGS INTO YOU CIGARETTE LIGHTER SLOT. NEVER THE LESS I WOULD RECOMMEND. IT IS ALSO A CHARGER.
