Are there any high street stores able to offer say, 10% discount on a ps3 bundle ? zavvi and hmv say they dont but ive heard wispers of people buying with a discount... ?

you won't find any high street store which offers a discount on bundle console deals. this is because the stores make barely any money on them as it is, often the deal price includes the console at full price then the games are sold at way below their retail price so they barely make any money, sometimes even selling at a loss.
even staff do not get discounts on bundle deals so they wont give student discount on them.

Think you are out of luck. Is it a possibility you could buy a second hand PS3?

Its worth noting if you are interested in mega expensive games like "guitar hero world tour" which is about £145 you still get 10% student discount at the usual places as its a game (so approx £130) :T
