wtc help

Hiya my daughter n son in law applied for wtc on June 20th and still havnt had any money from them

After phoning everyday for 6 months i told her to ask to speak to a manager
2 Sundays back the manager said it was ridiculas at how long theyve been waiting and would see what she could do

Rang Monday to be told its gone to a different department now to be assessed

Rang today and daughter ask how long does a claim normally take and she was told 21 days normally she explained her situation that its been nearly 8 months and the woman couldnt believe it

the lady put her on hold to speak to the department that are dealing with it and they said about 3 weeks and it will be sorted

Does anyone know how they can get any money

son in law is on apprentaship money £85 for 40hrs and daughter works 9 hrs on a sunday and gets paid monthly

They are at the point now were there going to give the flat up and move back home as the bills have piled up there on gas and electric metres aswell
ive tried explaining this to them but dont seem to be getting anywere

Any help would be appreciated

do they get any means tested benefits such as Income Support? If so they should be able to apply for a Hardship Loan (think that's what it's called) - but I don't know how quickly those are processed, especially at this time of year

    Hello 24 fan,

Have your daughter and son in law made a claim for child tax and working tax or just working tax? If it is working tax the answer is in your post, if netheir has disability's then they do not qualify as an apprentership is not classed as employment for working tax credits purposes and your daughter does not wokr 30+ hours. Also, this may have been picked up by tax credits office and the claim may well be being investigated, hence the delay.

    Thanx for the replys
Son in law is classed as disabled we did mention this and the apprentaship when applying for wtc and they said it was fine They have no children so its just wtc they are claimimg

They also claim housing and council tax benefit but this has been stopped 3 times already as they cant provide the correct information ie tax credit award notice
  • Actually Hotblu is correct, I somehow missed that part.

An apprentiship doesnt count as employment as it is classed as training.

Your son in law would need to be in PAYE employment - with minimum wage.

It is most likely that the claim has been sent to compliance to check the employment details and this is wy it is taking so long.

Sorry, but they are not going to be awarded anything for WTC - if they get awarded WTC it will be in error so they should contact TCO to request the claim be withdrawn as it has been submitted in error.
