Hi
I recently bought a cd-writer for my pc from tescos, it has now broken, being the unorginised so and so that i am i seemed to have 'misplaced' the reciept, on top of this i lost my clubcard proir to buying it so have no proof of purchase at all, i also paid cash. I wondered if anyone out there has had a similar problem and has been successful in an exchange before i approach the store.

Sorry can't help you but i recently took some of their own brand bacon crisps back that were manky and tasted wrong and they had the cheek to ask if i had the reciept.Yeah like i am going to keep the normal shooping reciept i would have it had something electrical on it but not a normal shop. They said they'd do it this time...gee thanks.Darren0

Glad I popped in to read this thread!
I have been having probs with Asda refunding/exchanging an item (have receipt but its complicated!).
I will now go buy another one and take first one back.
Thanks for the idea us,thecat&thedebt!0 -
I Have Often Done This If I Have Lost The Receipt. Bought One, Take The Old One Back With The Receipt And Take The New One Back Without And You Get A Refund In Gift Vouchers If The Product Is Unopened.Just about to give up!0

i took a camera back after xmas as it wasnt working properly they asked for receipt i said as it was food shopping i threw it by mistake they said no receipt no refund i said this is a faulty camera im entitled to a refund but only want to exchange they said no again i demanded to see the manager before he got there another assistant arrived and exchanged it for me
as far as i know you are completely within your rights to get a refund for faulty goods but you do need to stand your ground i was ranting while i was waiting about knowing my rights etc and also working in the retail trade i expect thats why they gave in0 -
I work for Tesco and can advise that the more detail (clubcard no..date, time, method of payment, etc) that you can give will allow someone to check the backoffice system and confirm your purchase.
However as I often don't keep receipt I go to the store with my credit / bank statement which is reliable proof of purchase (and obviously verifiable ).

Every time I buy something Electrical a Tesco (even with groceries) they always give me a separate (additional) recite and tell me I need to keep it warranty etc. Is This just my store that does this?0

I must comment at this point that MoneySavingExpert does not condone fraud. Taking an item back in an honest manner and thinking about how you can get them to accept a return if you have misplaced the receipt is one thing, buying another item in order to return the first and then take that back to is in a grey area at best. Please be careful

If the item is faulty, you are intitled to a refund - no issue really.
On the other - I keep ALL my receipts for a month - but keep any electrical / guarantee ones seperate. After the month I simply dispose of the normal receipts. This has saved me a lot of hassle in the past and is easy to do once you get in the habit.MSE_Forum_Manager wrote:I must comment at this point that MoneySavingExpert does not condone fraud.
