Bad bad medicines :(

Next year I'm making a concsious effort not to buy so many non-prescription medicines (ie paracetamol, cough and cold rems, indegestion tablets). Not only are they costly, but I'm also concerned about all the chemicals swimming around.

Does anyone have any old style remedies passed down for common ailments?

The only one I know of is the hot water bottle for cramps!
