I was plugging the headphones in to my lappy tonight and as I was pushing the plug in I noticed a red light in side the headphone socket, I was wondering if there an optical connector built in to the headphone socket that can be plugged in to my surround sound amp? There are some letters under the headphone symbol but they are too small for me to read but my wife thinks it says spdif.
Nothing to see here, move along.

A red light inside the headphone jack sounds like an optical connection to me.
My iMac has the same arrangement.

It is an SPDIF connector, the red glow would suggest an optical rather than coaxial connection.
I am off to check out my Acer 7720G now !!
** This connection is also present on my 7720G and is an optical spdif output0 -
Thanks guys, have I cheered you up there too Gary?Nothing to see here, move along.0
