Compensation for Flawed Investment Advice

I was made aware of a landmark case and American Judgement last year on TV between December 17th and the 30th but didn't catch the name of the case and much more, all I remember was that it affected all the major investment houses and they were told to compensate those who followed their investment advice and lost money as long as you purchased it through the avenues suggested by the investment (in most cases their own firms) - anyone can provide me a link to the case or the news item regarding this recent judgement? (i've been scouring Google and Lexis Nexis for the past 30 minutes but to no avail)
I know it's there cause I rememeber vividly watching this on the news in America.

Are you from America or did you invest in America?
If not then it will not influence English law in the UK one iota.
Sorry can't help you with the case name.0
