HD programmes on HD ready tv?

Advice please as to what exactly do I need to watch HD programmes on a 42" HD ready tv
My in-laws have this set up with built in freeview and have added a freeview recorder, I know that only a select few programmes are shown in HD, but what would they need to do to actually watch them in HD?
The freeview recorder is a Digihome, and doesn't appear to have a HDMI socket and therefore is connected to the tv via a scart lead, so does this mean it wont recieve HD signals?
Advice would be much appreciated.

They will need a Satellite Receiver, either Sky HD or Freesat HD or another type of Satellite HD Receiver to get HD Channels, nothing available via Freeview.0

They'll need Sky, Virgin or Freesat HD.0

Sky have the largest choice when it comes to HD but you have to pay £10 a month for HD content ontop of your package.
Freesat offers bbc1 and ITV channels in HD at the moment.
Virgin only offer BBC1 and its still classed as a trial.0 -
Or a blue ray player, ps3 or a pc connected to tv
You also need hdmi or vga or dvi to hdmi lead for pc
You wont get hd via freeview or scart/ Freeview may at some point have hd when analogue switch off nationwide probably and will need a new freeview box as they will probably be compressed to h.264They'll need Sky, Virgin or Freesat HD.0 -

I would have thought they will bring in freeviewHD when they start to turn off normal tv over the next few years.....then they can really boost the signal which should be able to handle HD....well thats my thoughtIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Yes that's right in wont happen until switch off for analogue though, then we will not only have more channels assuming companies want to expand channels but also we could have at least 1 if not more HD but this wont be until 2012
I think they will though be encoding them into h.264 (mpeg4) and as far as I am ware non freeview boxes have chips that can decode the signal as you need a more powerful box to do this.
The Humax HD freesat boxes including there new pvr can decode hd streams, there is around £30 difference between the HD freesat box and the SD version, so these chips that they use cost quite a bit of money to decode HD streams
I have my pc connected to tv (its an old P4) and I can play h.264 avi's through it using zoom player or vlc playerI did read somewhere that theyre looking into HD freeview at some point0 -

Do you have a link to where and when Scraper?:idea:0 -
Thats true but I doubt many channels especially HD will be launched until the full analogue switch offsuperscaper wrote: »Depends on where you live though. It's only next year where I am.0
