i have had an advent laptop for 2 years now but it has been back at the repair depot more than its been on my lap. in the first year alone it must have gone at least 6 times, each time with a different problem. when it reached its one year my ex said we should take out the repair policy that was offered at £8.25 a month because even though it sounded a lot i used it daily. i am disabled and am in bedroom 98% of the time and everything i do revolves around the computer so it was very difficult without one. i do have a proper size one in front room but cant sit there for too long and even have an iphone now so can use the net there if desperate. soon after taking out policy it started to and fro again. i rang the insurance company who said unless i had been without it for a period of six weeks or the tech guys said it was no longer feasible to repair i would not get a replacement. the last 2 occasions it has been sent off with the same problem, the entire screen goes black and you need to switch it off and on again, when i received it back this time it said no fault found. furious i rang them up and said how can you say no fault found when it keeps going black. they said all parts had been checked and they found no problems. i pointed out the first time it was sent off with this problem it sometimes stayed on for a few hours or even a few days but evetually the time between each instance got shorter and shorter and eventually would not come back on at all. this time i sent it off before it got to the stage to see if they could find out what was causing the problems. he said all he could do was offer another date to collect machine to look at. i said i was not happy with this and said just because it had not turned itself off when they looked at it didnt mean it wasnt doing it and i was not happy to send it off and be without it for another two weeks. he suggested i explain all this to the insurance people which i did but they just said the same again. well took the tech guys details and said if it started again i would be in touch, well guess what? so now back at it coming on and off with no particlar timing and would like someones point of view of what i should do now? the tech guys will just organise another date for collection to look at it again and the insuarance people will also say the same thing again, surely there must be something i can do. i know its 2 years old but i should get better service than that or should i? is it worth continuing to pay repairs monthly sum or just put it down to experience and cut my losses cancel the policy and buy another? all suggestions gratefully received

That option not open to me. Ours went bust last week.:rotfl:I would go and speak to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau.0 -
Buy cheap, buy twice - other than that I'd be chasing this up with whoever sold you the laptop as it doesn't sound fit for purpose. Oh and haven't read the whole of your post as it's kind of hard to read.0

I would go and speak to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau. It seems to me that the laptop is inherently defective.
I wonder if your local paper would be interested in how this company treats their disabled customers?
If not, Watchdog might be.
thanks have sent an email to advent computers and they have replied saying it is nothing to do with thme and gave me a number for the tech guys support and call out which i have been using all along. there is a customer service number so i may try that one tomorrow. but have visions of being fobbed off again. get the impression that as its 2 years old now i should be moving on to another model. i know they have come down in price but they are not yet a disposable commodity that needs updating constantly. surely i deserve better service than this or like i said am i being unreasonable?0
