Opening online account - Which banks don't need paperwork from you?

Does anyone know which of the online saving accounts definately do not require any paperwork. i.e. they can be opened purely online?.
I believe Bradford and Bingley is one. Anyone know of any others?.

  • I have opened supposedly 'no paperwork required' accounts only to find they couldnt electronically verify my identity and I had to go into a branch or send them something anyway. Beware that this may be the case.

^^ as above. That will happen with every bank.

They have to be able to identify you, if they can't do this electronically they will ask for paper proof.

Happens with all online-only banks such as FD and Egg.

It helps if you're on the electoral roll, and have a credit history they can check.

A guy here at work applied for Bradford/Bingley and didnt have to send off anything. How they do it - they made him transfer money in from another account, in his case a RBOS account. They presumably accept RBOS have already completed checks on him so they don't need to.
  • I have opened numerous Halifax accounts, YBS and Alliance and Leicester with no hassles at all - solely online.
  • Believe it or not, the ubiquitous Alliance and Leicester allowed me to open solely online.
However beware if its a joint account.

I opened an E Saver with Norwich & Peterborough BS without having to send any paperwork.
It was the quickest and easiest account I've ever opened.
