Excalibur Combi Boiler

I have an Excalibur Combi Boiler at home (was there when I moved in in December 2006). It looks fairly new but has developed a fault and is switching itself off at random times. The plumber (who had never heard of one of these before) seems to think its a pressure build up. When we take the covers off and hit the reset button it seems to reignite itself, sometimes after a few attempts. The plumber said he doesn't want to change anything not knowing what's causing the problem in the first place.
Can I ask if anybodies had a similar problem or heard of this make of boiler? and if there are any suggestions on how to fix it?

Good afternoon: Your boiler is an Ariston . If your RGI isn't familar with the boiler either get him to look at the manual or find an Ariston specialist on their website (I'm assuming your plumber is an RGI).

Oh, my instruction manual doesn't look like that. Thank you very much I shall pass that on. Yes he's fantastic and very qualified. As previously explained, he didn't want to play around with it without knowing the main cause of the problem. I'm putting words in his mouth but you get the idea.
Thank you very much for your help.0 -
Hello RTHippo. I have exactly the same problem with my boiler (also an Excalibur). The engineer also didn't recognise it but said it was the control circuit board. Did you manage to resolve your problem? Did they find out what it was?
Thank you.0 -
As soon as the cover taken off i gather it's firing up?
I would be checking the tubes to the a.p.s first for splits and if they are ok i would be look at the a.p.s switch itself. These are things for the rgi to check and not diy.0 -
Hi, yep we have the same problem. Moved in a few months ago and noticed it reset a few times. Plumber said it could be water pressure and seemed to help and luckily we got through the recent 4 week ice age in London but now its causing problems here and there. We cannot even set up the timer before we wake up as it switches itself off before we wake up! Will try to speak to a plumber in next few days.
Hope your boiler is ok as your post is old.0
