I need to split my connection between my pc and my 360, and after asking a while back i now know I need a router but there seems to be loads of different ones 802.11g/g+/b and a.Anyone point me in the direction of a decent kinda fast one for gaming etc as it is all a bit confusing I've never had any need to look into them before so really don't have a clue about them. Thanks,James.

Do you want to connect either or both your PC and Xbox to the router with cables or wirelessly?

Sorry forgot to mention wireless is what I'm after, have a few miles of wires in here as it is!!!!0

I assume you have a modem next to your pc that has a phone line connected to it.
Generally people place their wireless router next to their desktop PC, connect the router to the PC with a short patch cable and connect other devices such as laptops/PS2/Xbox wirelessly.
Are you on ADSL with a BT phoneline?

No need to make your desktop wireless, you simply connect a wireless router between your existing modem and PC. So the cable you use now to connect your modem to the PC would be used to connect your modem to the router. Then you would use an identical cable to connect the router to your PC.
A router like this is what you need.
To connect your 360 wirelessly to the router you need one of these.

If the router is connected to the PC by a patch cable to set everything up. Maybe a cheaper option would be to connect the 360 to the router by cable, then use the PC online through wireless. A wireless card for the PC is a lot cheaper than the Xbox wireless option. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Yep. I was working on the assumption that the PC and modem were already side by side in one room and that the Xbox would be used in another, but your config is equally valid. Depends how OP wants to lay it out.

In the same way, I couldn't fault your advice. I was working under the assumption that both machines were side by side or very close to each other (the OP said about switching cables over), so a wireless PCI card wouldn't have to be the best quality (it wouldn't have to throw the signals very far). This could make it a lot cheaper option. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Thanks guys think I'll sack the wireless 360 option if I need to fork out another £55 and either get a card for the pc or just go for cables with both.It was really the cables for the 360 I need to hide as the pc ones are all under my desk but the 360 is underneath a wall mounted lcd and it has cables and huge adapters cluttering up the area around it already but I'll live with it for a £55 saving
p.s. both are right next to each other it was for tidyness I wanted wireless not because it was in another room. Thanks again,James0
