I was on salary till a couple of years ago, I would quite regularly work an hour or more extra a day.

but yes, the culture here has changed, people are standing by the clocking machine at 4:28 now (we finish at 4:30) every day. I think the under appreciation of our efforts has dragged our morale and loyalty to the company down somewhat.

Anyways, having my disciplinary meeting in 15 mins.

Anyone dare me to show up late? :) *hehe*

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Good luck! Just try and stick to your promises this time!
  • Hope all goes well in the meeting Reds-On-Sea and that you take the appropriate steps to stop being late.

I personally don't like being late and don't understand how people allow themselves to be consistently late. To me it demonstrates either that the person is disorganised or isn't bothered about the implications of their tardy arrival.
  • I'm still waiting for my meeting, I was just on my way over there and saw they guy it was with en route, stopped him to query and he said he hasn't got the time. He sounded so disinterested, seems silly after informing me by letter could've at least dropped me an email! etc.

nonetheless, fear not, I'm a reformed character! x

I do wish people would at least read the thread before getting up on their high horses.

I'd also appreciate if you didn't call me names.

Nobody needs to cover for me, somehow the company doesn't go out of business due to my 4-6 minutes of absence a week.

If you bothered reading my reply, you'd see that I do have an alarm clock, and never snooze it.

p.s. SO didn't mean to thank you either!

to Callisto, do you go to bed with wet hair? I'd worry that I'd get water stains on my pillows

Bint means woman (sorry if you do not understand my language and it certainly isnt an offensive word, ok I will call you wench instead but I actually think that that is more offensive than saying bint - its my brummie accent don't you know:rotfl: ).

My suggestion about putting the alarm clock on the other side of the room is a valid one so that you do actually have to get out of bed to turn it off. Your attitude towards your employer stinks because you are saying that they always manage to survive despite your lateness but what we are trying to say is that they shouldn't have to!! You are stealing time from your employer - time when you should be behind your desk or even at your machine doing whatever it is that you do. Put yourself in their shoes for a minute - or consider this - that everytime you have a dental appointment or doctors appointment that they keep you waiting because they decided to have a coffee or whatever before you were due to see them - you'd get pretty frustrated too especially if this was continual.

As for washing your hair, wash it at night and blow dry it, or even sleep with it wet - as for water marks on pillows, these can be washed out but you won't have a bed if you continue on the route that you are travelling down by being persistently late for work because your employer will sack you and you will have no job and will certainly struggle to keep a roof over your head!

Mind you if you want to be persistently late, why not work for yourself and that way you can choose your own hours or even sit around in your dressing gown whilst working because nobody will be able to see you.:rotfl:

Interesting - bint in my part of the world is certainly derogatory but having read up it appears that in the midlands it is used affectionately.

Language don't you just love it?

What a load of quaddle. I'd bet you'd be the first to complain if the bus was late, the doctor didn't see you on time etc...

time keeping isn't difficult and in some jobs it's essential.

No, I just think there are more important things to worry about.

  • I have sympathy with you as I find it impossible to be on time. I don't know why - people say get up earlier - makes no differnce. I am never terribly late and I do care as I know it's bad - would never leave freinds waiting hours etc. But i do find it a real struggle. Luckily I work flexi time so not an issue at work anymore as my DH drives us in so I have to leave when he does. But I'm always flying around getting stuff while he waits impatiently by the door.
However if I faced disciplinary action - I'd pretend I started work 30 minutes earlier and that would probably work for me.

  • Horace - I didn't realise that you were being affectionate when you were calling me a Lazy Bint! Down south it's definitely a pejorative term!

Actually, it's my goal to eventually work freelance - and it's nothing to do with me enabling me to "laze around in my dressing gown" thank you very much! :)

I don't have trouble getting out of bed in the slightest, I just begrudge having to leave 60 or 70 minutes for a journey that normally takes between 25-45 minutes for the sake of a few minutes. I value my time too much to just give it away like that. Especially to such an unappreciative employer.

Is that extra half an hour worth losing your job for?

I really don't get how some people can say, they're always late but they can't help it! Course you can help it! Most of us do  I hate mornings and it does take me ages to get ready when i'm going anywhere but when i'm going to work, I have a shower the night before, get all my clothes ironed and laid out and then all I do is get up, clean my teeth, straighten my hair, get dressed and go. 20 minutes at the most. I only wear make up when i'm going on a night out, no way could I be bothered putting it on every morning

I used to work with a lad who was always late, just a minute or so but the rest of us would be sat there ready to take calls or getting on with other work whereas he would take his coat off, get his computer ready, go and get a brew and THEN get down to work. It was totally unfair to the rest of us and he did get in trouble for it, he eventually got fired for that and other things.

OP - I also find your excuses a bit lame to be honest, you need to wash your hair every morning? Are you kidding? My hair is very thick and gets greasy really easily but if I washed it the night before it would be fine. Even if I go to bed with it wet it's fine the next day.

I think it's good that you want to change but a few minutes here and there is a lot to your employer, imagine if every worker was like you? They'd be starting up late every day
 Think happy & you'll be happy
