Gifts for couple travelling around the world!!!

Hiya

My brother and his girlfriend are going away for a year in November and we need some gift ideas for them.

I was thinking about some hotel vouchers or something that you can use in different places so they can treat themselves to some luxury!!

or

something that you need when travelling around the world but didn't realise you need it - If that makes sense.

Thanks in advance ;)

How about a travel medical kit Im sure they will be traveling to a few countries where hygiene is not the best.

A friend of mine said the best thing he had when he went travelling was one of those little super-absorbent towels; it's just a bit bigger than a face cloth & made of a chamois type material. It comes with it's own storage tube & can be put away damp. Speedo make them, you can buy them in sports shops, I would guess for about £15 each?!

The first aid kit is a good idea, or how about travel wash, pegs & a washing line? Useful for washing your smalls in a hotel sink!

    Some useful things:

    Mosquito net
Swiss army knife / leatherman (invaluable for opening bottles, to making food on the run etc)
silk sleeping bag liner - can used in hot climes in dubious sheets - or they could take a double duvet cover & use that instead
If they are going to Thailand for eg. first tell them to buy their toiletries there - i.e. on Khao San Road there is a Boots which sells things for a fraction of the price back home, plus you can buy things over the counter there you can't at home - like anti-nausea tablets for eg (never travel without them in the 3rd world!)

However, there are a myriad of practical things you could buy for them - but, as a different idea, why not buy them some experiences whilst they're abroad?

EG: Scuba diving in SE Asia - Padi training for eg.
Surf Lessons in Bali / Australia
A Tour Round the Red Centre in Australia
    Spanish lessons in Bolivia
    The Inca trail in Peru
    Sky-diving in Sydney
Ballooning over the Serengeti etc etc
club together and send them to the Galapagos / Easter Island....

Just a few ideas, but, if you find out their itinerary you could plan some amazing experiences for them, and, that's what they'll remember after the event, not the mosquito net, swiss army knife etc, but that their sister / in law paid for them to do X and it was amazing...

However, if they're going to be travelling over Xmas, a luxury hotel would definately be appreciated particularly if they have been away for a while!

Anyway, hope these suggestions are useful, the experiences though would definately be my first choice for presents if/when I get married or go travelling again!

    Enjoy

    TQ
