Best value printers and cartridges

Even if you get a cheap printer, you pay as much again each year for toner cartridges.
Can anyone recommend:
A good value, reliable, ink jet printer. I don't need art work quality, just good enough to print business letters. Low volume, say 100 A4 sheets a month.
A model of printer where printer cartridges are easy to source and not expensive.
I don't want to use refilled/used cartridges - I want to base my purchase decision on the price of buying new cartridges.
I currently use an HP DeskJet 3920, and even my modest use of around 100 A4 sheets (normal business letters) a month, I use about 1 cartridge every 2 months. A ream of 500 sheets of paper lasts me 6 months, in the same period my cartridges run out at least once or twice. I want something more economical to run!
Thanks!

Try a laser printer, toner cart will last up to 5000 pages or 5 yrs in your case, and will give far better image on paper. Try the Brother range.0

Thanks. But I want to find the best printer/cartridge cost option for ink jet.0

Thanks for the link. It was interesting, but these are much higher spec than I need! These were photo-printers. I'm looking for a nice simple printer for letters/correspondence.
Anyone got experience of good basic ink jet with economical toner cartridge cost? Mostly I use just black.0 -
I bought an old laserjet printer off of ebay for buttons. It came complete with a toner cartridge and I am still using it years later. Why not try that?
Alternatively, I always found https://www.ink2u.com to be really competitive on ink cartridge pricing.0 -
The cheaper printers tend to use multi-ink cartridges, which are more expensive to buy & you end up wasting ink (if one colour runs out, you have to throw away the whole thing). The Canon printers use individual colour cartridges which are cheaper and you (obviously) replace them individually, so though they may be higher spec than you want, they will be cheaper & better quality in the long run. I've been using a Canon ip4000 for a number of years now & have had no problems. Another 'best bit' is that it automatically prints on both sides of the paper - another saving and it's also got a larger black cartridge for general office work. I think the replacement models are the ip4300 and ip4600. Incidentally, I've been using Cartridge World replacement cartridges in all that time as well - about £4.00 each - & have had no problems with them.0

I bought a brother DCp-115c all in one printer which uses a four cartridge system. The printer was £40 and the replacement cartrdges are £6.99 a set from ink emporium.
So even if just teh black goes you can buy them individually or keep the colours as spares. Cheap as chips. 0 -
Brother All in One Injet Printer/scanners, I use 3 of them, brilliant, I get compatabile cartrdidges for around £2 each delivered.
They use a 4 tank system as well.
Cost of the Brother's was around the £35 / £40 mark.0 -
