You could make a nice broth, fry some onion, garlic and add some chopped veggies (potatoes, carrotts etc), add tinned pulses for protein some stew mix, stock cube, water and the bones, just let it cook for a good few hours, you could also add some bacon if you have any kicking around.:snow_laugChristmas is just around the corner

Hi all,
I've got a half leg lamb bone in my slow cooker with carrot celery etc making stock.
also, broth mix has been soaking since last night.
I'm just not sure what the next step should be to making a tasty soup.
(I've got celery, carrots, 1 mini turnip, onions, leeks, and potatoes vege- wise)
Any advice welcome!

Chop the veg and simmer with the broth mix in the stock until soft. You can then either liquidise it to make a smooth soup, or leave it chunky. Season, add herbs.

As it's lamb, I would allow the stock to cool first so that you can skim off any residue fat before you just threw anything you like into it - one, some or all of the ingredients you mentioned.I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Quick question - I have lamb stock leftover from yesterday's roast -no meat it all got eaten.
Got beef mince out this am to make a cottage pie (do have left over mash); will the lamb gravy work or will it just taste muddled and greasy?
I originally thought it would be ok as I do know some people mix their mince........

There are lots of soup recipes if you google "recipes using lamb stock" like Scotch Broth
Off the top of my head I would use it for shepherd's pie, moussaka and lamb curries. You could also reduce it and freeze to use as a base for lamb gravy some night when you are having chops.0 -
Hi skintchick,
There's an earlier thread with some ideas for using lamb stock that may help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.
