So in reality i am the same as every other home owner who borrows to buy a car and runs up CC's and OD's to pay for expensive things like essential home renovations etc.
Not every home owner does borrow to buy things....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Or perhaps, as you yourself said about your own position, this is about your anger and jealousy?
I've being fighting my debt mountain for nearly 4 years. It's been a steep learning curve and I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel but all of a sudden I've become full of anger and jealousy. I just can't stop thinking of all the money I've wasted since I left home over 20 years ago...the books, cds, clothes, toys., meals out.......I'm a loving person and I have a hubbie who loves me, 2 kids who love me and sisters, brothers and a dad who I can call friends....so being a generous , fun person is probably part of what they love...
...so why do I feel so eaten up with rage....why am I jealous of people who have more material things, why can't I just accept I made my choices?

This homeowner saves up for things, except his extension which he had to MEW for, but it paid for itself cos he didn't have to move house and pay all those fees.

Neverdespairgirl, its a process, pet. You're almost through it, and you'll come out stronger, wiser, and confident that you can cope with anything life throws at you. The stuff that money can buy are just frills in life --and when we grow up we find that frilly things are boring !0

the most worrying things is that we appear to have learnt nothing from the last hpc in the late 80's
to think that it could never happen again is beyond belief +0 -

NDG was quoting a previous post made by WISHIWASRICH - or were you being facetious?0 -

The point I am tryin to put forward is that I guess i just purchased at the wrong time (unfortunately) and now I am stuck in a place where I would rather not be. And the further these prices drop (which is accelerated by the lack of purchases due to the 'vultures' circling, waiting to try and screw down prices of property to make them happier), then the longer I will have to put up with the hell hole of the residents I must put up with. I do not blame these people as I am sure anyone would probably do the same, but I dont think its appropriate for these people to laugh and gloat at other peoples misfortunes. Some of us people didnt do the wrong thing when purchasing, they just chose the wrong time to do it. We wanted our own place and at the time of purchase, that was the going rate, we didnt realistically dictate the prices!! if 2 parties both want the same property, then thats what causes prices to rise and therefore rises prices in that area for the future.
As for renting as was mentioned, I could have rented, but when you are told for years and years that the housing market bubble will 'burst' and for years and years this never comes to fruition and the prices keep on rising and rising. Then you have a decision to make, buy now when you can afford to, or hold off and when you decide to buy, the prices may have risen considerably and can no longer afford a mortgage. If you rent, you pay just as much in rent as you do in a mortgage (generally speaking), therefore, how are you ever going to be able to save for a deposit if you are paying rent!!!, so I made the choice because I could afford to at the time and was scared that if I didnt make that move, then prices would increase more than my income allowed and never be able to afford a place that I could call home.
Really sad - you are exactly the sort of person who would have benefitted from advice on these forums before you bought - bit late now - and exactly the sort of innocent person who will be caught up in all the coming economic mess esp falling house prices.
I do feel for you - but do I feel in any way guilty, or 'vulture' like?
Hardly.
As anyone who knows my posts on these boards will know, I, along with most of the supposed 'vultures' here, did my damnedest in desperate posts as the market peaked, to dissuade you and others like you from buying; as we could see where it was all heading. For our pains, we were daily insulted, called 'losers', told we'd missed the boat, etc etc, and far worse - same as you were - by precisely those same people who now have the temerity (or is it just deep lack of irony?) to call us vultures!
I know I tried to warn as many people as I could to wait - and of course, we were proved right by events.
It is very sad that some innocent people will suffer as a result of prices falling.
But at least my conscience is clear. I did feel a strong moral imperative to warn people - sorry if that sounds pious or self-aggrandizing; but it just happens to be true.
I hope those who did their best to talk up the housing market as it fell around our ears can bear to look at themselves in the mirror, or read the headlines of families who bought at the peak and are now being thrown out onto the street, with as clear a conscience as I have.0 -

You are joking right ?, NDG was quoting some other guy.0 -
Yeah, I think we should live in a society where an ordinary family should be able to afford a decent home without crucifying themselves on a lifetime of debt.
I'm basically scum.
You're not scum. I feel bitterly sorry for all the young first time buyers out there and I agree with you about society. However, someone is going to get a bargain here. Just please spare a thought for at whose expense:
