Hi,
I'm trying to find out if ex forces can buy their council property's after one year?
The local council are suggesting you have to be in a secured tenancy agreement for at least two years before you can buy the property.
I have been informed by a friend who's heard it by hear say that ex forces can buy the property after a year.
Can anyone share some light on this subject as it would much appreciated?

When I left the army in 1995 we moved into a council house. We had to wait 2 years before we had the right to buy it. Not sure how long you have to wait now.
have a look at: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommunity/BuyingAndSellingYourHome/HomeBuyingSchemes/DG_40013980 -
Ive just bought the council house we live in, and im currently serving in the forces.
If you need any help, send me a pm.

Check here for more information:

Here about key workers (which at present you seem to qualify for) and the discounts you can get:

Also most councils seem to have a policy on armed forces right to buy, have a look at this google page:

I hope this helps and (if you celebrate it) hope you have a happy christmas!:A :

There are many reasons a serving member of the forces could have a council house e.g. the home was already theirs before they signed up, the home already belongs/belonged to a partner, they may have applied and waited on the list like everyone else etc.0 -
Exactly that honey, my partner was living in a council house0
