    Aaaaaaagh pay attention :rotfl:

Turn off restore, go into safe mode then run an AVG scan and an Adaware scan whilst yer there, but before you do go into safe mode make sure the AdAware definitions are upto date.. Open AdAware "check for updates now"

You need A Antivirus A Spyware program or two and a cleaner and a firewall.

If you have the time, read through the "What Security Do You Use?" sticky at the top of the Techie Stuff page.

It pretty well covers everything you need to know.

If you're confused or have any questions after you've read it please post back on here.

What it boils down too is basically:

If you're on broadband get a router because that will provide your first line of defence as it's a hardware firewall.

Ensure you have a good anti-virus product, keep it up-to-date and scan regularly. AVG and Avast are both free and very good.

Ensure you have a good set of anti-adware/spyware products. Commonest recommendation is Microsoft Antispyware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware Personal SE. Use all three. Again keep them up-to-date and carry out regular scans.

Make sure you have Microsoft Updates set to update automatically for critical updates.

Enable a software firewall. Try either ZoneAlarm or Kerio.

Use either Opera or Firefox rather than Internet Explorer for your default web browser. They are inherently more secure.

Ensure you regularly back up unless you are prepared to lose your data irretrievably.

Thank you for your help i have read through all 15 pages of sticky you recommended ,
so no i was not scared away by intel as i say to my grandson good manners maketh a man and patience cost nothing and i thought this forum was for helping people
i already have microsofts critical updates turned on and there antispyware set to automatic updates and manualy scan every day.
i have avg free edition set to automatic update and also manualy scan with this every day.
as for a firewall i thought thought microsofts antispyware included this please advise if not.
now i need to try to work out what else i need back to reading through sticky again.
    Thank you.

Intel is one of the most helpful people on this forum. Just look at the number of times he's been thanked. Also take a look here, here and here.

It does get a little frustrating sometimes when the same old questions keep coming up and all the answers are in the stickies or readily available through the forum search function.

Plus I think Intel must be having a bad hair day.

p.s. Not sure why I'm inflating his ego 'cos he talks out of his !!!!!! most of the time ;) :rotfl:
