  • So your boyfriend never got a job and he automatically moans about discrimination.

Maybe he is that person every office has who thinks he is better and more important than they are and wind everyone up in the process, whilst doing their job substandardly and trying to blame others!

Normally I would just assume she did better in interview, but I've met her and she's stupid and girly! Niks

Maybe she thinks the same of you?

Clearly others did not agree with your viewpoint, and as they were on the selection panel and you weren't, their opinion is much more relevant.

Why is a lack of compassionate leave suspicious?

I'm wondering if they want a team leader they feel will support them rather than 'run his own show'? Employees who are highly critical and 'know it all', can be the worst team leaders, even if they are good at the job they currently do!

All the qualifications in the world can't make someone a 'people' person and perhaps that is what they want?

However, have you considered he may be trying to soften the blow as far as you are concerned? Maybe he doesn't want to tell you he lost fair and square to someone you consider a bimbo?

    OP

Unless your boyfriend was sitting in on her interview he is not qualified to suggest that she got the job on anything else other then her merits.

He's seen her presentation and apparently it was lacking in substance and looked like a school project, plus he's had better appraisals and job performance ratings. She's had no supervisory experience and he has (the job is a team leader position). Educationally, he wins too - he has a master's degree, she has a-levels. Obviously, she got the promotion.

    Niks

He may have a higher level of education, thought his presentation was better, and has experience in supervising people, but this is a job for a TEAM LEADER, so perhaps she has the best motivational skills, the best ability to keep team moral high, to praise workers when they've worked hard etc...

The very fact that your boyfriend is moaning that this decision is unfair perhaps shows negativity in his attitude, which is not a desired attribute for a team leader.

Our top boss in my office is a brilliant technical guy, highly educated, great problem solver, and can produce a great powerpoint presentation, but he is NOT good at leading people, hence we have another guy that does that!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Agree with all the above. Also, the qualifications don't matter. They are already employed within the company so they are known. What they have on paper isn't relevant. She wouldn't have been considered for the position if she was not qualified to do so. This job obviously doesn't require that the incumbent holds a degree. Which is nice to hear as once you are in the workplace it's what you do and how you do it that matters, not what you studied at uni (excepting things like medicine, law etc. of course).
  • Thanks everyone. He isn't moaning about it, I am. I'm the suspicious one, not him. You're probably right about all these things, I just wondered if there was a way for him to check what they've scored the candidates on. In his feedback session, Big Boss Man told him he should be better at his current job before applying for any more promotions, yet the girl who got the job is consistently underperforming (they have stats and league tables so everyone knows how well everyone is doing, plus they all discuss their appraisals with one another anyway). It just seems unfair that the reasons they gave him for why he didn't get the job are, provably, things she does worse. It's not a matter of opinion, it's fact. If they were going for people management skills and who's fluffier, why not tell him that's why he didn't get the job? That'd be more understandable.
