How long can a company legally wait until posting a charge

If, having paid (and taken) flights, the ticket is not charged to the credit card - how long does the airline have to post the charge to my card. This happened over a year ago and the cc company are telling me that there is no time limit for the airline to charge me - is this correct? Thanks

Pretty sure there is no time limit.

Obviously you won't have to pay the charge until the payment goes through however it is likely that the amont has already been deducted from your available credit. Even if you cancel the card and at a later stage the charge is processed you will still be liable.

Certainley a few weeks/months is not that uncommon, but longer ? It's possible you won't ever get charged if an error has occurred so look upon it as good fortune or if it's morally challenging then query it with the airline.
  • The legal limit for chasing up a consumer debt (which is what it effectively is) is six years.
