Old Boiler

Options
I have a Potterton Flamingo 50s.

The pilot light is lit, but when I switch the heating and/or water on at the switch, it clicks, as it usually does but doesn't fire up as it has been doing as early as this morning.

Any ideas? Is it something to do with the thermocoupling?

The boiler needs changing, I know, but I was hoping to get 1 or 2 years out of it before having to fit a new condensing combi-boiler.

  • I don't know if the Flamingo has a changeable solenoid or not, if it has it will most likely be that, if not it will most likely be the gas control valve that needs changing. Get a price to change it before allowing anyone to commence work on it, as it may not be cost-effective if you're thinking of changing it soon anyway.

I'm assuming that you meant it's the boiler itself that clicks and not the programmer?

Thanks for your reply. It was the gas control valve, it had gone a bit sticky. I gave it a tap and the file lit immediately.
