OK i had to call Dell as a Registry file was corrupt so they told me to reset the pc to factory settings which i made. Now my speakers will not work.
I have checked they pc over. The leads are in the correct places and plugged in ok. The light to indicate power going to the speakers is on, and when i swith the pc on with sound up full, i can hear a tiny tiny noise - very minute mind!
I have tried to do the Help & Support and followed their tips but still no sound! I would very much appreciate help. Gotta go to work shortly, but i have been at this since 11.00 this morning...better start singing to myself if the speakers wont work

Quick update:
I can now get some sound coming out, but it sounds as if the lead going into the speaker port on the pc is just touching the port in no more. In other words as if it isnt in the speaker slot, just touching... (think the game Operation)0 -
Hi
What soundcard have you got?, when I reformatted my dell comp, I had exactly the same problem as you, at first I thought it was my speakers, there was a little sound, and when I did the test on them everything was fine, but they didn't work or so I thought, anyway I decided to unistall and reinstall updated driver (which I found on the web) for my Creative Live Blaster 24bit advanced card, and now everything's fine.
Hope this helps0 -
Have you checked the wave volume levels ?
Go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Volume, Advanced.
Check Volume Control sliders that none are muted, the "Wave" slider volume should be up to the top.0 -

Click on the 'Sound' tab and then click on 'Test Direct Sound.'
Post your result back.

The Audigy 2ZS is one of the best sound cards going. You'd be better off disabling the onboard sound and using the Audigy.

List the devices here.
