mastercard via paypal

i am think of buying a car from ebay and paying on my credit card via paypal.

my question is, will this be treated by capital one as a cash transaction (therefore 3% charge and 18%) or will it be treated as a standard purchase (therefore 5% apr)?

i did ask capital one, but i dont think she covered all possible scenarios.

Transactions made through paypal which are categorised under gambling transaction, electronic money transfer, payment to open a deposit account, buy travellers cheques or foreign currency using your card, there is a charge for this. This charge is £3 or 3% of the amount that you withdraw or buy whichever is higher, and it's known as the cash handling charge. It may automatically be added whenever you carry out any of these types of transactions.

i find the "electronic money transfer" a little vague, surely if you pay an invoice then this is not classed money transfer, or is it?

i have sent another message asking about ebay transactions, but was wondering if anyone had tried this before?

thanks

My credit card (Nationwide) treats paypal/ebay purchases as purchases. YMMV

Mine too and it's a Capital One Mastercard. My Morgan Stanley one was the same before that.

On Paypal, you have an option to do a personal money transfer to someone (I guess designed for transferring money to friends/relatives) - maybe that's what gets classed differently. It's a different thing entirely - you as the sender get charged a fee to send money to someone that way.

    hmm, sounds promising...

so surley i could do the same thing outside ebay as long as i send the money as a 'purchase' rather than 'personal'?

    thanks
