Advice needed received debit collection letter in error Halifax

Hi
I am new on this forum and I was wondering if some else had this sort of problem or is it just me.
I had an agreement with the Halifax to pay off my overdraft of £1500.00 I paid over the odds at £360.00 per month to keep them happy. I called them to ensure that they were getting the money into the account in time and that they were happy with everything.
To my surprise I received a debit collection letter yesterday and called the Halifax up asking why I had received this letter stating that I owed Blair Oliver Scott £986.17. They could not tell me why as my account was being held by the company (BOS)
So I called BOS and asked why they had been passed my account. It was passed on the 6th October 2008 and no other note with it. Was I gonna pay them and if not when. Well I have never been spoken to like that (Awful people)
Called Halifax again to discuss it took it to a higher level and to cut a long story short.......... they sent it in error due to a trainee operator changing the details when I called to ensure that they were receiving it. She had changed the date to 31st November 2008 so as they did not get two payments in that month it was automatically allocated to the BOS company.
so............... after long discussions yesterday and after I had calmed down They offered me.............. no more interest on my overdraft, reduce the monthly payments to £200.00 per month and £144.00 credit for time telephone calls etc and to call back the account from BOS to the Halifax. I did say let it go to court as during the chasing period three people terminated the calls I made, The head of operations manager did not bother to deal with the complain and went home and it continues today I am waiting for a call to see if I am happy with the settlement.......Do you think it would be over the top to ask for the above and £250.00 compensation and ensure that they alter my credit file (well it is Christmas ....would pay for the turkey!!):A

It's best to put everything that's happened so far into writing, being as objective and factual as possible (it's a pretty stressful/ emotive time I would think). List each phone call, date and name of person spoken to, rough amount of time on the call, outcome/ no outcome .... and precisely what you expect to happen from now on.

IMO an interest free overdraft, longer payment schedule and compensation is pretty good but definitely ask them to confirm all verbal agreements in writing and to alter your credit file as this will protect you later on.

A way of making sure a company responds to you in writing is to send them a letter outlining what has happened but giving it the title "Formal Complaint".
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Can't really help you with your situation, but Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) use a company called Blair Oliver Scott (BOS) as (one of) their debt collection firm?
