Nissan Almera Brakes

I bought a 55 plate Nissan Almera recently and have noticed the brakes "grind" when I am brakign gently, my boyfriend has checked the pads and the are fine - any other ideas what might be causing this? I have booked it into the Garage to get looked at but would like to know before I do it.

thanks:D

  • did he take the wheel off to check the pads and discs?
some folk will say its easy enough to see them through the alloy wheel (if it has them) but the best way to be 100% sure is to get the wheels off and see.
    ...work permit granted!

And be careful not to mistake the metal backing bit of the pad for friction material. Was going to suggest a couple of emergency stop style brakings (no need to say look in the rear view mirror first :D) to see if that helped - but not 100% sure that's a good idea.

Fiat Panda today front pads and discs £142.

If you are sure it is not pads and discs or stone. Try using the brakes a bit harder for spell that will help clean off any rust etc. This would be more noticeable on the rear brakes as they do not do as much work as the fronts.

If the vehicle has been stood stationary for a while it is most likely a build up of rust on the discs. Some firm braking should remove the worst of the rust. If it is still noticably noisy then most likely the discs have pitted slightly through the corrosion and may need replacing. Be aware that discs and pads are normally a fairly profitable job for a garage and if they do advise this it may be worth a second opinion.

    Hope this helps

No he didnt take the tyres off, just had a look through the gaps (if that makes sense)
  • Well I took the car into the garage (Arnold Clark) this morning and they called to say the mechanic couldnt find anything wrong with the brakes (surprise surprise) so I have to go back in today and go for a test drive with the mechanic in the car.

Better they found nothing wrong than ripped you off  most places these days will tell you everything needs replacing and try tell you it's illegal to drive away, even if nothing's wrong.
