Unauthorised transaction by Paypal in CC

in Credit cards
I discovered an unknown transaction in my credit card bill this month with the entry "PAYPAL *YNKINTERACT". This card is not registered with PAyPal, so I am assuming that someone (from USA, it seems) has fraudulently used my card.
My credit card company said that I have to call PayPal first before they can do anything about it. Although I have emailed them, knowing their history, I an afraid that I may not get much joy from them. Is the credit card company right is making me investigate this myself first? And if PAyPAl does contact reply, how much info should I give them, should this include my card details?
Thanks in advance.
