Paying for a funeral

Thank you all so much for your advice, I am certain Nan does not have any money put away for a funeral.......I think she only has £1000 in her bank account.
But she may have a funeral plan (pre-paid) though?0 -
Just a point - whoever arranges the funeral with the funeral directors is responsible for ensuring it gets paid, either by way of a grant, insurance or through the deceased's estate..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
mboro, my thoughts are with you and your family at what must be a difficult time.
My uncle passed away unexpectedly a couple of months ago and left my parents in the same position - in the end they paid the funeral costs from the sale of his vehicle (about 1500 in total).
I would echo what hardpressed said - they just had a basic funeral package at the local crem, and any money that the mourners wanted to contribute for flowers instead was collected and sent to charity - and it was absolutly fine, so don't be worried about going for the basic packages. It's the memories of the life they had before that are important in the end. cel x

mboro, I'm sorry you're going to lose your Nan, my thoughts also are with you
it's horrible having to talk in such a seemingly mercenary manner at such an awful time, but you have to be practical
I've recently seen a situation where the deceased had no assets & their son (who they hadn't bothered to keep in touch with for years) a student with nothing other than his loans as income, almost got landed with the bill, simply because he felt he should help out with making the arrangements
please think carefully about who's going to take responsibility when the time comes0
