Radweld
Hi everyone. I have a leak that apears to be coming form the water pump area????? It looks to be the (paper ish) seal around it. The 3 bolts that hold it on, I got a good half a turn on each. But there is still a small leak. Would Radweld solve the rest of this problem.

Garage and replacing the gasket is best. If your car has a cam belt and a change is due ask them to do it while they change the belt and to change the water pump anyway along with tensioner etc etc.0

i doubt it , its meant for pin holes in the rad
id bite the bullet and fit a new gasket or pump0 -
What car is it?
On my Triumphs I made new gaskets using Gasket paper and the old gasket as a template. Perhaps not so easy on something more modern.:rolleyes:0 -
Hi all. It's an X Reg Focus0

Radweld won't fix it, it wants repairing.0

Might slow it down for a bit whilst you get it booked in. But agree try and get it booked in asap.0 -
DO NOT USE RADWELD. IT CAUSES MORE PROBLEMS THAN IT CURES.
Radweld blocks up smaller pipes and water galleries in the head.
Unless the pump has been taken out recently, it won't be leaking from the gasket. More likely is the seal around the shaft has gone, it's weeping down the body of the pump and cumulating around the lip where the gasket is. Have you checked to see if there's any play in the pulley?0 -
Yup - radweld is for very minor leaks & weeping. It will not be much good against a failing gasket.
If the bolts have worked loose & needed tightening, it might be that they need to be torqued harder. If you have a torque wrench, try searching around online for the correct pressures.
Also, the old gasket may be compressed beyond its sealing capacity. As a stop gap, a smear of hylomar or red Hermatite may keep things sealed. However, by the time you have removed the old gasket to do this, you are just as well replacing it as the chances of damaging the old one further are pretty high.
Second what Conor has to say about the shaft - It could easilly be that too. A pattern pump for a Focus should not be expensive & will come with a new gasket etc. Replace the whole thing.0 -
another radweld hater. it does cause serious damage to some engines. its not worth the risk.
an x reg focus is worth getting fixed properly surely?...work permit granted!0 -
Do it properly - get a new waterpump fitted.Happy chappy0
