Combi Boiler or not - bathroom expansion

  • My local council (Fife) are currently installing the Worcester Greenstar 30Si in all their residential properties in my street. And my heating engineer thoroughly recommends them on the grounds of ease of use and low maintenance.

    Presumably the council have also done their homework when it comes to purchasing the best buy.

    PS. I run an Alpha combi, so I can't speak from experience of Worcester personally.
  • Worcester Bosch boilers are about the best you can get.

    Personally i would always go for a system boiler (one with a cylinder) for a 3 bed house. If the combi boiler breaks at least you still have the immersion for hot water.

  • Hi....your folks's Bermuda is doing much better than my MIL's combi from hell:mad: also known as a Halstead Eden...goes to lockout on a whim and the OH does the repair over the phone aka 'press the reset button, Mum'....the OH knows the fix but Halstead spares are so pricey it would be cheaper in the long run to fit a new combi (special family discount i.e. free).

    Halstead = :mad:

    A gnat in the venturi is enough...

    I went on a visit to their factory once, fitted a couple of their boilers off of the back of it but had nothing but trouble with them, and their after sales service was pretty poor too. I'd rip out your mother-in-law's one just to spite them.

    I am on my third combi boiler - originally we installed one when we moved in because as a family we all did a lot of sport and wanted to be able to have several hot baths in quick succession at weekends in particular. Bath does take a bit longer to fill but you adjust to that. We got round the airing cupboard problem by having a small ch radiator installed in it in place of a cylinder. We have a large heated towel rail !!! radiator in the bathroom and find this is fine for keeping it warm in winter. If boiler packs up - as our last one did - we just had to heat water in a kettle until it was fixed. Does not impact washing machine or dishwasher as these are all cold fill anyway nowadays.
