Applying for a new credit card

I currently have a credit card with Natwest, with a balance of £900. I'm looking for a new credit card so I can clear my £900 balance that I have with Natwest.
I recently received my Experian credit report through the post the other day and there has been one credit check in November and about three credit checks in July.
When lenders decide whether they'll give you credit, what do they usually look for?

Chiefly payment history and not having too much available credit will help. So long as your history is extensive and clear, you should be OK. Lots of searches is a big no-no however.0
