SCS Sofa's TOO BIG to fit in thru door! Can I get my money back?

I ordered a 3 piece reclining suite from SCS. I specifically asked about the sizes and whether it would fit through my standard Double Glazed front door.
I was assured that it would be fine and fit no probs.
Well now 3 months later, the suite was late and then when finally delivered it wouldn't fit through the door!!
They actually damaged my front door trying to fit it through ( It will have to get fixed!)
They then suggested I removed my lounge picture window!! - I think not.
I live in Scotland and it is December.
What rights do I have in getting a full refund. Although the suite wasn't faulty, I was given wrong advise in selecting the sofa.
They mentioned they would keep £600 of my £3000 as a 'handling' charge.
Is this my best option?
All advise warmly welcomed, please help!!
Thanks

I think in the small print of the terms and conditions it states something about it is your responsibility to ensure that the suite will fit through your door/windows and you are not entitled to a refund in the event it does not.
It would be difficult to say you were mis-sold the suite since it is your word against the salesman, and you signed the agreement to their T&C whereby the responsibility to ensure that the suite will fit through your door is on you.
If you can't get a full refund it may be cheaper to have the window removed and then put back in again after the suite is inside, rather than lose the £600.0 -
OH had to do this for daughter and also best friend. not as bad as it sounds, assuming its a double glazed window.0

Had a friend remove her window to get old suite out. Took the man a few minutes to remove and replace. Would certainly be the cheaper option. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Had the same problem a couple of years ago. We ended up removing our complete door frame to fit the suite through. We were assured by the company that it would be OK, but what they didn't tell us, was that the 3 Seater (double recliner) actually comes apart into 3 pieces...?! We opted to pick up from the Warehouse (as it was down the road, and we had transport and saved us £80) so I think the info. was omitted 'on purpose'! At least we know we can get it out again, without having to remove door frames.
Sorry, this is my long winded way of saying, double check that the suite wont 'come in parts'!makinprogress0 -
Right said Fred
Both of us together
One each end and steady as we go
Tried to shift it
Couldn't even lift it
We was getting nowhere
And so
We
Had a cup of tea and
Right said Fred
Give a shout to Charlie
Up comes Charlie from the floor below
After straining
Heaving and complaining
We was getting nowhere
And so
We
Had a cup of tea and
Charlie had a think and he thought we ought
To take off all the handles
And the things wot held the candles
But it did no good
Well I never thought it would
Oh
Right said Fred
Have to take the feet off
To get them feet off wouldn't take a mo
Took its feet off
Even took the seat off
Should have got us somewhere but no!
So Fred said let's have another cup of tea
And we said
Right-o
Oh
Right said Fred
Have to take the door off
Need more space to shift the so-and-so
Had bad twinges
Taking off the hinges
And it got us nowhere
And so
We
Had a cup of tea and
Right said Fred
Have to take the wall down
That there wall is gonna have to go
Took the wall down
Even with it all down
We was getting nowhere
And so
We
Had a cup of tea and
Charlie had a think and he said look Fred
I've got a sort of feeling
If we remove the ceiling
With a rope or two
We could drop the blighter through
Oh
Right said Fred
Climbing up a ladder
With his crowbar gave a mighty blow
Was he in trouble
Half a ton of rubble
Landed on the top of his dome!
So Charlie and me had another cup of tea
And then we
Went home...
Sorry... no schadenfreude intended. I'll get me coat0 -
Removing glass and reglazing is actually quite common. I know 3 people who have had to do that. Takes minuites. It's only the glass they remove, not the frame so it makes no mess as such."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." We got our suite in,just. We were lucky as it was an old fashioned wide Victorian door.We now have a upvc one and it's about 3 inches smaller so we won't be able to get a suite through again. We would have to take the window out.
When they delivered my suite incidentally, they had just had to wait for the person before me to take the window out as a sofa would'nt fit through the door.
I was told this was quite common nowadays and when I asked about it was told it was the buyers responsibilty and the shop would'nt refund because of it.0 -
i had problems with scs with my sofa, they looked at my door and hall i had just decorated, they said they would struggle to get it through and they would need to call their boss to see if they could attempt too and any damage would be not their fault i agreed they couldnt do it. they suggested i get a window fitter to remove my living room window when i went to phone my husband see what he said they just left my sofa outside and drove off.. phoned to complain and got no where they said i brought the sofa paid in full and they cant do anything. i had to sit outside till my husband got home as i didnt want it stolen... terrible customer service...
didnt mind having window out was easy to do with no mess, my problem was they just left my £3000 sofas outside luckly it didnt rain0 -
