streamlinenet web hosting cancellation

Options
hi all

i'm a web developer and have been using streamline for 2yrs now

one of my websites is unrequired now due to my friend not needing a website anymore so i need to cancel the website/account with streamline when it was up for renewal on the 5th of december

on the 16th of november they emailed me to say in two weeks the account is up for renewal, so i contacted them by email to say i do not want the account anymore, please cancel

i got a reply saying sorry you do not want your account anymore please phone us, as i was out of the uk at the time the 0844 number would not work (it wasnt listed on saynoto0870 etc)

on return today i contacted them and they informed me that they would not cancel my account because it is now after the renewal date (despite me telling them to cancel on the 16th) and when i told them on the 16th of november it was within 30 days of the renewal date (5th dec)

they say that this was in the t+c i signed up for 2yrs ago, however there is no way to check this as i can't remember every detail of the t+c

t+c for streamline did change on dec 1st with regards to renewing the accounts: http://www.streamlinenet.co.uk/tac.php

however obviously i did not sign up for this in 2006, how does this affect me?

also can they tell me my account is up for renewal 2wks before, so pay ??? to renew or contact us to cancel, but i can not cancel due to it being within 30 days of the account requiring renewal

another issue i have is their automatic renewal of services (a new t+c bought in on dec 1st which again i was unaware of), debiting my card details without informing me

please help

you instructed them not to renew, you did so in writing, so them debiting your account is fraud.

Inform them of this and your bank that funds have been debited without your consent.
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!
  • i contacted them on the 16th of november to tell them to cancel the account when it is due for renewal on december 5th

they told me sorry you wish to contact you account, please phone 0844 961 1000, which does not exist when you call it

on december 1st they changed their t+c (which i didnt sign up for in 2006) saying account cancellations need to be made 30 days before renewal is due, when previously you could do it the day before etc

they haven't taken any money for renewal

another issue with another account is i bought a server from them, which i thought would be sufficient for hosting an ecommerce system, when i got the server (online not physical product) i found it couldn't do what i needed so asked for a refund, which they refussed to give due to them being unable to ascertain whether i had used the server or not

yet another issue with another account, services rebilled and money debited from my account without letting me know, this is new t+c from dec 2008, i signed up for this account in march 2006 when they notified you of renewal is due 2wks prior (like with first issue) however they didnt this time and just took the money without permission (i havent signed anything saying i accept the new t+c stating automatic renewals are now policy)

filed for fraud with first direct my bank and got the money credited back, just waiting for streamline to act, if or when they do

Streamline did exactly the same thing to me. What I did was ask my credit card company for a charge back which they gave me. It's absolutely outrageous that they continue this scam (for this is what it is). Chase it up with your bank or CC company and don't forget to drop a line to Trading Standards in Derbyshire.
  • thing is the auto rebill was on a service (sql server) on an account i want and need, just i do not want the service

i contacted my bank and they removed the payment as fraud and i got the money back, just worried what will happen now on streamlines side

    what happened next with yours?

encouraging to know i'm not alone as very worried about this

thanks for your help, any more will be much appreciated

    cheers

Nothing happened next with me. I had cancelled (or rather not renewed) a simple web-hosting contract.
  • ok cheers so i'll just leave the account that i don't want renewing and ignore there renewal emails

with regards to the service they rebilled without my permission, i've got the money back so i shall wait to see what happens

have i got a case against them for the server that they wouldn't refund me on due to they being unable to ascertain whether i had used it or not?

I'd suggest switching hosting companies like i did. I've been with many hosting companies but so far HourHost has helped me out alot. HourHost.com helped me build my website and gave me nice tips on how to improve my website and other helpful suggestions.

Plus they were really supportive and so far so good. I think the hourhost name relates to their quick response to customer queries and they have an account manager as well, where they assign a person to me and they guide me on how to set up my website and general help if needed. I certainly needed this service and they offer it for free with any hosting account.

Good luck on what every you do.

    Best Regards
