Nissan Primera - Windscreen Wiper Motor - HELP!!!

Hi folks, I'm currently having a nightmare...

The other day I used the local mechanised car wash, and it ended up moving my windscreen wipers up. I thought that by switching them on it would return them to their rightful resting position. This appeared to be the case, however, when I tried to switch on the wipers later, they wouldn't work. I checked the fuses and found the wipers fuse to be blown. Subsequently I then replaced this fuse and tried again, and this blew also.

Last night I took the car to the local Nissan service centre and they told me the Motor has gone, and to replace it, it will cost £365!!!!

To say I nearly had a heart attack is an understatement.
So what I would dearly like to know is, can I get it fixed another way other than by going to Nissan, and if so, how and where. I am based in Hamilton, Scotland.

Cheers

BombJack

My OH had a problem with his windscreen wiper motor in his corsa. He went down to a local scrap yard....bought one for pennies there....and then fitted it himself. Note: This was just before an MOT and it got through with flying colours.

Indeed I'd have guessed £10-15 for a second hand one. There are plenty of scrapyards on the web too, that offer a search facility. Like this one (I don't know anything about them):

  • same has happend to mine this morning i washed my car then when i come to put my wipers on they blow the fuse, i thought it was to much of a cowinsidence that id washed my car then they started playing up so i got the wifes hair dryer and gentle warmed the motor and the relay next to it in the engine bay give it ten minutes to cool then tried a new fuse and it worked
so dont be to eager to pay out give this a try it may work for you
    good luck
  • post was 4 years old silly me pmsl
  • The wipers went on my pug a few years ago so I got a motor from the scrappy and fixed it but being me I took the old motor to bits and the only problem with it was corrosion on the output shaft making the motor not turn. I greased it up and it was fine, might be worth checking before you spend out on a new one.
Nothing to see here, move along.
