I am posting this on behalf of my mum. She had an account with a bank and got in trouble with it so that she is now repaying through a debt agency. She has tried to reclaim charges and has received a letter from the bank saying they are willing to give her a percentage of the charges back. My question is, what will happen to this money? Will she get it directly as she is paying the debt via a debt agency as appose to the bank itself? Or will this go towards the debt she is repaying?

Can you give a little more background about the situation? No personal info, just time, rough figures e.t.c. If the charges (in full) come to more than the debt she is paying, then its likely that the debt itself is disputable.0

I, sorry I don't know much of the information. The debt itself is purely charges which I think total almost 2000 left owing but was in the region of 3000. The bank have offered a a sum which means apporx 400 will be left owing,so about half of the original sum. The debt itself is now with a recovery agency and has been for approx a year or maybe longer.0
